Pets need shelter from floods too
Written by Michael Vass
There is nothing worse than a flood. It affects every member of the family, it leaves it’s mark on your home and memories. You can’t predict if there will be a flood, how far it will reach, or how much damage it will do. It leaves you with the fear of it returning in every storm.
Such is the nature of a flood. And I’m sure we all can appreciate the feelings and difficulties most endure in such a situation. But there is one member of the family that is affected in a flood that we really don’t hear about. The pets.
A family dog or cat, even horses and other larger animals are all affected equally by the problems a plague presents. The family pet is as loved as any child and just as disturbed when disasters strike. Yet if you watch the average news program you will hear nothing in regard to what has happened to all the pets.
I was reminded of all this because I saw a bit of news about Christ Lutheran Church in Terre Haute, and how they are providing shelter to families and their pets. The implication is that some organizations and/or facilities are not doing the same. It means that some of the smallest, or least able to deal with a flood are being turned away.
I understand the need to help a fellow person in a disaster, and I applaud those that do. But I also have to wonder about those that aren’t being helped. Don’t you?
